I once asked my doctor to tell me how exactly one should go about losing weight. His response was: “Eat less.” At the time I thought he was being a bit of a smart-ass and it pissed me off. COME ON! I’m not an idiot. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that the best way to lose weight is some combination of diet and exercise. I already had the exercise thing down – roller-derby having all but taken over my life – but what I was really trying to ask was: How do you eat less in a healthy way? How much less is less enough? How do you stay motivated? How do you go about changing your habits in order to see results?
The truth about losing weight is that it seems super hard until you lose 10 lbs and realize it wasn’t half bad after all. I know what I’m talking about, I recently lost 40 lbs and then got engaged. I’m not saying that weight loss leads to marriage, more often it is the opposite, getting engaged usually leads to the bride or groom-to-be adding losing weight to the to-do list. I mean, let’s face it, who doesn’t want to have a slammin’ body in all those wedding photos?
As a recently engaged comedy wife to be, and a recent loser of weight, I am perfectly equipped to go on this weight-loss journey with you. I’ve put together my favorite tips and guidelines to help you get motivated and figure out how best to go about this endeavor. Come on people let’s get ready to look and feel fantastic on that special day!
Rule #1: Love yourself just the way you are!
Ok, so why exactly do you need high self-esteem to make this work? Because if you don’t love yourself, your journey will be filled with negativity and the negative bus only leads to failure. Get on the happy bus. A positive attitude is key to achieving results. Believe that you’re beautiful as you are, because you are. Work on developing your self-confidence. Have faith in your ability to do anything you set out to do. Believing in your ability to succeed will make it easier for you to stay on track. The journey to shaping your body into something worthy of your dream wedding is not always going to be easy. There will be bumps on the road. Believing that you can succeed will help you overcome obstacles and keep yourself headed in the right direction. Once you’ve got your mindset straightened out, you’re all set to start losing the weight.
Motivational music for rule #1:
- Drink green tea. Rumour has it, its great for weight-loss.
- Caffeine right before a workout helps you boost your intensity and burn extra calories.
(Maybe from the green tea you just had?)
